Meet Jens Wiik - CIO at Axelent

Working in IT means constant change and countless opportunities. We spoke with Jens Wiik, who has many years of experience in the field. In this interview, he shares his thoughts on how the industry has evolved, common misconceptions, and why Axelent is a place where IT can truly make a difference.

“Being part of a company with a genuine 'Gnosjö spirit' is fantastic.”

What do you enjoy most about working in IT today compared to when you started?

I’ve worked in IT for many years and today I have a better understanding of when IT adds real value  and when it doesn’t. I’ve been part of several projects where IT created significant leverage for companies and helped them become even more successful. Now that I know how things work at Axelent, I also see the potential we have with IT. I’m excited about what we can achieve.

What part of IT do you think is often underestimated but crucial to a company’s success?

What’s often underestimated is how deeply connected IT is to nearly every part of a business today. For example, most people use email and a digital calendar, but the underlying infrastructure is quite complex. While there’s a lot of technology involved, the human connection is often overlooked.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about the IT department?

Many people think of the IT department as purely technical, just dealing with computers and hardware. But many IT professionals also have a deep understanding of business operations and are skilled in working with systems like ERP and the business processes around them.

“If you love learning, solving problems, and have patience, go into IT.”

What advice would you give young people considering a career in IT?

If you love learning, solving problems, and have patience, go into IT. But if you’re thinking about becoming an IT consultant, keep in mind: many are called, but few are chosen. It can be quite demanding, so it might be a good idea to start out in an internal IT department at a company.

What’s the best thing about working at Axelent?

Working at a company with a genuine “Gnosjö spirit” is fantastic. Even more exciting is being part of taking that mindset out into the world, that’s an opportunity not many companies offer. On top of that, there’s a strong drive and short decision paths here, it’s truly energizing!
